Protein Buddy

Protein and macros

Track your macros. Skip the calorie math.

Protein Buddy is a protein tracker that tracks your macros too. Choose Protein and macros under Keep an eye on in Settings and you track protein, carbs and fat, each against its own goal, without counting a single calorie. Every meal you snap, say, scan or type comes back with its carbs and fat beside the protein, and your calendar adds up each day. Want calories too? Choose Everything and your calorie goal adds up from your macro goals on its own.

An example day on Protein and macros: protein, carbs and fat, each against its own goal, and no calories to count.

Three numbers, set up in a minute

  1. Choose Protein and macros

One choice under Keep an eye on in Settings, or during setup. Protein, carbs and fat come in, calories stay out, and your protein goal stays put.

  2. Set three goals

Nutrition goals gives protein, carbs and fat a ruler each, in grams, starting from a suggestion based on your own answers. Moving one never moves another.

  3. Log the way you eat

Snap a plate, say what you ate, type it or scan a barcode. Carbs and fat land beside the protein and follow the portion you pick.

Your macros, with protein in the lead

Macros without the calorie math

Protein and macros shows what is on your plate as three numbers, protein, carbs and fat, each against a goal in grams, and leaves calories out. No budget to balance and nothing to subtract: just a clear picture of how the day is shaping up.

Carbs and fat from the food you log

However you log a meal, the carbs and fat come back beside the protein. Pick half the portion and all three follow, so half a bowl is half the numbers.

Protein stays the headline

Macros can make every gram look equal. They are not: protein is the one that helps you keep muscle while you eat less, so it stays the number that leads. The ring on your Home screen fills with protein, and in your calendar each day's Daily goal card lists protein first, with carbs and fat under it, each against its own goal.

Calories too, whenever you want them

Choose Everything and calories and fiber join protein, carbs and fat. Calories get no ruler of their own: your calorie goal adds up from your protein, carb and fat goals at 4, 4 and 9 calories per gram, so the numbers always agree.
