Protein Buddy

Protein first

A protein tracker that can count more.

Protein Buddy tracks one number by default: the protein you need today. If you also want calories, fiber, carbs or fat, Settings asks what you keep an eye on, gives you a goal for each, and puts those numbers on the foods you log and on every day in your calendar. Choose Just protein and none of them ever appear.

102gof 130g protein
Kcal1,640
Carbs146g
Fat58g
Fiber21g

An example day with everything switched on. On Just protein, the four tiles are not there at all.

How the second number works

  1. Choose what you watch

Just protein, protein and calories, protein and fiber, protein and macros, or everything. It is one row in Settings and you can change it any time.

  2. Set a goal for each

Drag a ruler per nutrient, or keep the numbers the app suggests from your own answers. Moving one goal never moves another.

  3. See the day add up

The foods you log carry their numbers, the day totals them in your calendar, and protein stays the number on the Home screen.

Why protein leads, and calories follow

One number is the reason it works

Most food trackers ask for everything and get abandoned in a week. Protein Buddy asks for one number a day, which takes seconds to log and is the number that matters most if you are eating less than you used to. Everything else is optional on purpose.

The numbers come from the food you log

Photograph a meal, say what you ate, type it, or scan a barcode, and the estimate carries calories, carbs, fat and fiber along with the protein. They rescale when you change the portion, so a half serving is half the numbers.

  • Photo, voice, typed and barcode logs carry the full set
  • A plain gram entry carries protein only, because there is no food to read
  • Protein goes to Apple Health and Health Connect, and protein logged in other apps counts here

A drink can go in the day too

Once you watch more than protein, something with no protein in it stops being invisible: a soft drink, a juice, a glass of wine. Anything with calories can be logged with its own numbers, and alcohol is counted in them properly instead of reading as almost nothing.

Nothing appears unless you ask for it

Just protein is the default, and on that setting the app looks exactly as it always has: one goal, one ring, no calorie score competing for your attention. Nobody gets nudged into counting calories by an update.
